ONID - OSU Network ID

Configuring Outlook Express 5/6:

Outlook Express 5/6 for Windows:

Retrieving your ONID mail:

1. Open Outlook Express
2. Open the Tools menu and choose Accounts...
3. Click the Add button and select Mail...
4. Enter your Display name which is the name you want other people to see when they recieve your email. Click Next.
5. Enter your E-mail address this should be in the form username@onid.orst.edu where username is your username. Click Next.
6. Select the type of incoming Mail server. Select IMAP from the pulldown menu.
7. The Incoming mail server (IMAP) name is imap.onid.oregonstate.edu
8. The Outgoing mail server (SMTP) name is mail.oregonstate.edu. Click Next.
   NOTE: If you are not on campus, you will need to contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for the name of their Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server.
9. Fill in your Account name - your ONID username goes here.
10. Uncheck the Remember password box.
11. Make sure Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) is unchecked, if available. Click Next.
12. Now fill in your Account name, which you will use to identify the account (such as onid.orst.edu or ONID email).
13. Click Finish.
14. Click on the Mail tab, then double click on your ONID account.
15. Choose the Advanced tab.
16. Under Incoming mail (IMAP) click the checkbox next to "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)"
17. Click OK and close the Accounts window.
18. Outlook Express is now configured to check your mail!

Configure Outlook Express to use the OSU Online Directory

Outlook Express 5 for the Macintosh:

Retrieving your ONID mail:

1. Open Outlook Express.
2. Open the Tools menu and choose Accounts...
3. Click the New button.
4. Click the Assist Me button.
5. Enter your Display name which is the name you want other people to see when they recieve your email. Click Next.
6. Enter your E-mail address this should be in the form username@onid.orst.edu where username is your username. Click Next.
7. Select the type of Incoming Mail server. Select IMAP from the pulldown menu.
8. The Incoming mail server (IMAP) name is imap.onid.oregonstate.edu
9. The Outgoing mail server (SMTP) name is mail.oregonstate.edu. Click Next.

10. Fill in your Account ID - your ONID username goes here.
11. Uncheck the Save password box. Click Next.
12. Now fill in your Account name, which you will use to identify the account (such as onid.orst.edu or ONID email).
13. Click Finish.
14. Double click on your ONID account to edit the account.
15. Click the Click here for advanced receiving options button.
16. Select the This IMAP service requires a secure connection (SSL) checkbox.
17. Choose the Advanced tab.
18. Select the Store special folders on IMAP server checkbox.
19. Click OK and close the Accounts window.
20. Outlook Express is now configured to check your mail!
